Martin County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) coordinates disaster preparedness, response, and recovery for residents across the county. Operating under Indiana law, the EMA works with first responders, local officials, and state agencies to keep the community safe.
What EMA Does
-
Prepares for Risks: Floods, tornadoes, winter storms, and hazardous spills
-
Coordinates Response: Runs the Emergency Operations Center during major events
-
Supports First Responders: Helps fire, EMS, and law enforcement with logistics and resources
-
Leads Recovery: Assesses damage, applies for state/federal aid, and supports rebuilding
In Case of Disaster
-
Road closures, evacuations, and shelter info are coordinated by EMA
-
EMA helps declare emergencies to unlock aid from Indiana or FEMA
-
For mass emergencies, they coordinate with agencies like IN-MORT and IDHS
Headquartered in Shoals, EMA serves all of Martin County’s 339 square miles.
